GEORGIA O'KEEFFE

Mother of American modernism

Jimson Weed, 1936
My Front Yard, Summer, 1941
Blue and Green Music, 1921

Georgia O’Keeffe is one of the most original and influential female artists in modern times. Widely considered to be ‘The Mother of Modern Painting’, she is most known for her vivid images of New Mexico. She countered natural imagery of flora and fauna with striking depictions of animal skulls and bones. Today, she is recognized as a pioneer of 20th century art and a feminist icon. The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe is the perfect place to experience her revolutionary art.

Georgia O'Keeffe

on Cerro Pedernal, New Mexico

O’Keeffe lived on in the hills of Santa Fe. Her passion for the region and the inspiration she drew from the landscapes here are evident in much of her work. There is much to discover, and nowhere is this more true than the area around O’Keeffe’s home studio in Abiquiu. Following the trail from her former home, through the desert landscapes to the Ghost Ranch is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live and breathe O’Keeffe’s work.
